This is sketch I did the other day. What I liked about her face expression was that it evoked a mix of character between sadness and happiness. In real life she was not actually crying but I thought of ways to exaggerate her expression and by adding two tear drops I managed to make it work. Don’t you just love experimenting!
I finally managed to get a copy of the digital tutors facial animation and lip sync DVD. The tutorial was well structured and easy to follow. Now I am looking forward to move on into the lip sync lessons.
Today I managed to spend a bit more time tweaking the golfer animation I started last weekend. After I blocked out the main key-frames the animation looked too stiff and was not flowing. Then I decided to act out the action in real life and it made a huge different. I went back, edited the line of action, added arcs and follow through in the movement of the character and voila! The timing now works much better .
Yesterday morning while sitting on the tram to school, I came across a grumpy looking boy and a bold man who was intently interested in his newspaper. I found their face expressions very inspiring so I took out my sketch book and did a quick, rough drawing of what they looked like. Here is the result.
Few of the animation books I read couldn’t stress enough the importance of the characteristics each character carries throughout the animation. Here I tried to create a short piece that will practice squash and stretch, tension, anticipation and character with different weight, mass and traits.
