Lifting a heavy object second blocking pass

Hey all, here is the second blocking pass for the current animation test I am working on.

I still need to tweak few frames here and there but overall its getting there slowly.

Lifting a heavy object animation test

Hey there people, inbetween working on the short film pre production stuff, I started another body mechanics animation test. This time I am working on lifting a heavy object.

Below is the first blocking pass I did, any feedback of critiques are most welcome.

Walk Cycle

Hey All, Sorry I haven’t updated my website for a while. My classmate Paul Harris and I , have started working on our short film as the submission for our final project. Pre-production finalising is currently happening. Yes it’s that time of the year where everything becomes hectic and you wish you had more time to spend planning your shots.

We spent the past 10 days drawing our storyboard, cutting the images and putting them into an animatic. We were both happy about the way things were going until this morning  when one of our critiques looked at our work and suggested we should consider re-drawing some of the shots so the story will read better. It felt a bit like being in a real studio scenario where the Director comes to the storyboard artist and tells him to re-draw some of the shots after he spent a lot of time on them. All in all, I must say that it’s a great learning experience in terms of how to plan and approach a short film production. Get everything crystal clear on paper and from there everything should flow.

Unfortunately I don’t have the animatic to put on display due to the fact that we are still re-working those last shots that need touching up! However here are is the walk cycle and a bouncing ball test I did during cleaning those storyboard drawings.

Follow Through

This is a follow through test I did this morning. I did a very quick sketch of how I want the mechanic arm to move and the rest was pretty much straight ahead animation. I spent about an hour working on it so far.

More bouncing balls

Today I had the day off so I continued refining my animation fundamentals by working on more bouncing balls. This time I animated two balls bouncing down the stairs. Once again I used the golf, pool and tennis balls as reference. There are few adjustments in the timing that need to be done cause this is pretty much the first spline pass I did. All up I spent around 3 to 4 hours planning and animating them.

Initially I wanted one of the balls to bounce off the edge of the stairs but it didn’t work out for me cause the stairs I was testing the bounciness on are made out of wood and they don’t bounce the golf and pool balls back very well. After few attempts to create it, I gave up cause it felt like I am getting nowhere.
