Ed’s Feedback #01

This morning I received Ed’s feedback about the blocking we did last week.

Overall Ed was content with what we turned in. He said the opening is nice. He gets that the guy is enjoying his sandwich. It looks like it tastes good (Hell yeah, I made myself the meanest Tuna sandwich when I took the reference footage – It was YUM)!

Second quick blocking pass

Today, we only had few hours to try and push the first blocking pass we did over the past couple of days. We shaved the first 13 seconds of the animation and I think it works better now. Also we managed to improve some of the poses and adjust the timing and spacing of some of the actions (especially when the character freaks out).

We also cut out two camera angles, it felt like there were too many cuts and it was hard to follow the actions.

After speaking to the guy who runs the master class here is Melbourne (Craig Brooks from Blue Dahlia), we found out that Both Luke and I have to work on the same animation and divide what parts of the scenario each one of us is going to animate.

Luke will be concentrating on the first 10 seconds of the animation, where the character is eating and sniffing around, while I am going to put more emphasis on the reaction towards the end (the last 12 seconds or so).

Once again, any tips tricks or suggestions are always welcome.

A very very rough blocking

First blocking pass is done. Since we weren’t given much time to work on the first part of the assignment I tried to block the animation as fast as I could to get the feel of it, check what poses are clear and whats read well and what’s not. I am aware that the timing is pretty off through out different parts of the animation, I am going to address these issues in the second blocking pass I am going to do.

As always, any feedback or critiques are most welcome. Thanks for stopping by.

Animatic for Ed Hooks Master Class

Hey everyone,

Here is the animatic I did for the assignment I was given for the Ed Hooks master class. Sorry if the drawings are not the best quality, we were given a very short time to plan and block things out.

Please have a look at the video below and let me know if it’s easy to understand what is going on or not.

Ed Hooks Acting for Animators Master Class

Great news! I enrolled into the Ed Hooks Pre-Masterclass. In the next following weeks I will be working one on one with Ed on a scenario he assigned Luke (my classmate) and I. The master class will be held towards the end of September in Melbourne.

We were given three scenarios to choose from. At the moment it seems like we are either going to animate a take with a character eating a sandwich at 2am and suddenly there is a knock on the door or alternatively smoke is coming from under the door.

I am looking forward to start working with Ed, it will be a fantastic experience!
