Splining take number 03

The next task for the master class was to start splining the blocking I did for both takes. One of the things I like about blocking is the stepped keys. It allows you to get a clear idea if your poses read well and if the timing works. It’s cleaner then all those splines….hehehehe

In this pass I checked my arcs, cleaned all those flat curves/ tangents, tweaked the timing and pushed some of those poses a little further to get better clarity and nicer moving holds. It’s still not done, but its slowly getting there.

I stumbled across a brilliant “check list” which was written by Keith Lango. It’s called “Life after pose to pose - Taking your animation to the next level”. I highly recommend reading it at least once.

It’s extremely helpful to refer to the list every time you get carried away or lose track with what you do.

Some people asked me what was exactly the purpose of the exercise. To answer the question, the idea was to emphasise the change of emotion. Show what the character is doing, then how he reacts to what ever happens(which in my scenario was a knock on the door).

I can honestly say that it is my very first real attempt at animating some sort of an acting shot and the amount of things I learn is huge. There are many things to take into consideration when planning an acting shot and I am still learning.

The next stage before the actual master class will be to add the smoke effect coming from under the door and the extinguisher spraying water on the smoke. Also I will have to do another refining pass on this take and then start splining the other blocking I did.

As always, don’t hesitate to share your thoughts.
