WIP short film production

Posted by Avner Engel in Animation

It’s been a while since the last time I updated my blog, a lot of exciting things happaned since then.
Our short film production is progressing and coming along slowly, the pressure is building up as there is not long before it’s due.

I would like to take this opportunity and post a work in progress clip of where we are at with the production.

Please bare in mind that the animation in the LAST two shots is still a work in progress and it’s not polished yet.

Please watch it and tell us what you think.

any comments or crits are most welcome.

hey dude. it looks amazing. the visual style looks great.

i think if you make a visual cue on the calender shots
ie ” animated red tick” just to make audience focus “time passed”

the shot with the dog getting door slamed. it is a great shot, im not saying to
change it but consider “often you get more impact by showing less” ie”you show guy pulling on umbrella, ends up with foot on doorframe, sound affects dog yelp, thumping and then dog growl, then guy realizes and is scared, drops umbrela, slams door shut to barking” by not showing the dog getting slamed against the door you give the audience the freedom to imagine what is being done based on what the guy is doing on the other side.

the shot through letter box flap is great, mebe needs to zoom in a little more so the idea is clearer and also possibly a second shot “repeat outside freek out shot” to reinforce the “guy is scared of out doors”

other than that i think its brilliant, sound will make it awsome,

    congrats

    lookforward to seeing it.

    Hey Avner,

This is really coming along! Some really nice bits in there! I really like the dog chase scene… that was well done. Just a couple of small things I noticed… The boy walking up to the door at the start felt very bouncy. I didn’t understand what the book had to do with the short ‘Step Outside?’. I was a little confused why his eye’s were closed when he went outside to grab the mail (the end part).

I wasn’t exactly sure why he was receiving the mail and for what purpose… did the book have something to do with it at the start… if it did, maybe freeze the camera on it and have in big letters what it is he’s studing/doing… or what the short is about…sorry, I was just a little confused…

But definitely some nice elements in here… the opening shot is good… and the scene with the mailman and dog is good (particulary the casing shot from the window’s view point). Only the bouncing of the mailman’s walk at the start felt off… so good job there! …Just got lost with why he was waiting for the mail… maybe I missed something at the beginning…

    Keep up the great work!

    Aaron
