Some more Flipbook goodness

Ok so I think I am slowly starting to get into the swing of things with Flipbook. The second path I did on the spacing exercise was a lot more fun to work on. It’s so great to see what your animation is going to look like so fast.

I spent about an hour and a bit working on this extended version of the timing and spacing tutorial and overall I can say that this traditional approach is heaps of fun (so far).

I do seem to have a bit of a problem though; whenever I am trying to export a .MOV file from Flipbook, the software crashes and I am forced to quit and restart it again.
Did anyone come across the same problem? How did you go about fixing it if you did?

I would appreciate any kind of information on how to fix this cause its extremely frustrating to export them image sequences and taking them into After Effect every time I am trying to preview my work.

    Hey Avner,

Looking good. It’s flowing very well. The timing for the most part feels good… Maybe could do with a tad more eas-in and ease-out, though… It feels like it’s being controled by it’s own energy instead of gravity at times… Off to a good start, though!

I noticed with the top animation (ball in the ditch) that it moves very fast in the middle sections between the extremes… I think it could be slower through here… also, maybe one or two more mini rolls at the very end… Keeping in mind what type of ball this is will depict how fast or slow it moves…

    My 2 cents,

    Hey Avner !

It seems you have fun animating in 2d, that’s great… And it will be helpful to improve your overall animation skills ;)

For the rolling ball…Try to really think of the forces that make the ball move. It seems that sometimes the ball gains some force where it should lose some, or hit that invisible wall where it should ease. At the end, it’s all about physics ;)

Your bouncing ball is a bit too linear, if you want it to bounce at the same height everytime, it needs to get self energy ;) Or it could bounce less and less until it stops, if it loses energy then ;) You decide, but here it’s linear and so not very believable. Otherwise, timing and deformations seem nice ;)

    Hope it helps !

Good luck and have fun !

Ps: Oh, and for the problem you have with Quicktime and Flipbook. I have the exact same problem with TvPaint and Quicktime… And that since I updated my version of Quicktime, so I think we know who’s guilty here ;)

Thanks for the replies Aaron and JL, much appreciated.

Yeah both tests are basically there to practice something I seem to have trouble with in general which is hitting those invisible walls.

I am intending to do another pass on those in order to address the things you mentioned and tackle the ease ins and outs.

    Stay tuned for more,
    Cheers,
    Av
