Revising my March Submission

Posted by Avner Engel in Animation

Based on the feedback and critiques I got from people in the last competition, I have decided to try and add that element of finesse my animation was lacking.

One of the comments I received was about hitting “invisible walls” and not having ease in and out of poses. To fix that I tried to tackle the area I thought was the busiest and I tried to simplify it. At the beginning it was a very hard to work on cause most of my frames were on ones and twos. I had to go in and literally clean up the mass.

I guess I am learning a lesson here.

So here I am putting the first revision I did, it’s not splined yet because I wanted to get some feedback from the community before I actually start smoothing those curves out.

Please let me know what you think, any kind of feedback or critique is welcome.

    Hey Avner,

Actually, I thought you did a pretty good job… animation can be really tough sometimes… so don’t worry if you don’t hit the mark every time… with practice, it will get easier.

From frame 50-120 where he say’s ‘The director has actually torn up a huge section of my music…’ I’m not really feeling the emotion of the line… I mean, he feels really bitter about it but he looks really calm and still… maybe something extra just through that bit… something in pose, maybe… could be as simple as his arm/hand coming up and then down again… as if to say why bother… the emotion he’s feeling could be in an arm slap… or slomething like it… he doesn’t have to do much… just something simple… coz he just doesn’t feel like he’s that restrained in that part. The rest is good, and I think toning it down has helped!

Also, I think having one hand down by his side through 0-115 would help to break up the simetry… coz it feels quite symmetricall with both hands on his hips for that long… the pose feels a little weak.

That’s all I have for now,

    Best of luck,

    Aaron
