Pendulum Test WIP
Here are some of my thoughts when I approached this test (any crits or feedback is most welcome): My process at animating a pendulum test: Creating a motion chart with key poses and rough spacing on a piece of paper. Thinking and deciding how I want the top part of the pendulum to move. Then I am trying to work out the arcs. In Flipbook, I create the key poses on 2’s to get everything rough and dirty. After that, I check the spacing and timing. Once I am happy with the...

The last test I did made me really doubt my understanding of the whole bouncing ball idea (timing and spacing), so I took another step backwards and animated a simple loop bounce on 2′s and the contact poses on 1′s. Next I tried to tackle again the concept of mass and weight in a bounce of a hard surfaced ball. Fingers crossed It looks better then the first attempt. This one is animated on 2′s as...

Hi there, after my last post about the bouncing ball, Erik (a friend and a walking animation resource) asked me a couple of questions about my process. I felt so intrigued by the question that I decided to compile all the notes and thoughts people left me and have a second attempt at practicing/ learning more about timing and spacing. Here are the notes I took during the second process: My process at animating a bouncing golf ball (attempt number two): First, I take a look at some video ...

In continuation of my previous post about my humbled attempt to get back to basics and animate bouncing balls in Flipbook I must say that I have learned a huge deal about timing and spacing over the past few days. It’s amazing what such a simple exercise can teach you, it looked so simple when I started. When I had my first attempt, after I blocked my key poses, everything started to get messy, the timing wasn’t really tight enough, and the speed of the bounces was inconsistent. I...
