Followed by the swing jump test I did a few days ago, I decided to try and push the whole idea a bit more. I wanted to practice a few more fundamentals but at the same time, keep the action in the shot fairly simple.
What I did was animating a stick figure jumping from one side to another, like the triangle shape did, only this time I reversed the direction of the jump. One of my targets was to add a little bit of a story and purpose/ intention behind the jump.
The settle on the vine is not finished yet. It’s still work in progress.
Here is the first pass:
I also started working on this whip action tutorial by Jason Ryan.

Is this a geriatric Indiana Jones? if it is you have nailed the movement.
Hi, Avner, yt here, I found your post on both 11secondclub and cgtalk. It’s good to see someone start practicing flipbook under the influence of Jason Ryan.I am also starting to love this software. I have watched some of your flipbook animations. Good effort there. I just feel the vine swing probably needs more anticipation before making he jumps into the air. Perhaps some running will give him more forward momentum. btw, I like the flour sack jump animation. It looks pretty good. Happy animating.
Hey Avner, just checking out the site again, and thought I’d leave some feed back. Both look good, I think the wipe more then the other. The swing jump looks good with the character, my biggest critic with that one is that the vine doesn’t seem to swing at it’s pivot point, but like half way down. Now I think that’s okay with a heavy rope, and quick action, but the top part still needs to move (obviously just not as much if you’re going for a heavy rope).
The wipe test…no comments. I think you nailed it very well.
