Pregnant Walk - Flipbook

A couple of weeks ago, I saw pictures of my pregnant cousin, her belly is absolutely enormous, which means she is due any day now. That thing actually lead me to my next idea, why wouldn’t I try to animate a pregnant woman walk?

It seemed like a pretty cool idea to me then, so while the creative juices were flowing, I started to think and research about it. Unfortunately I didn’t come across a lot of good reference on the internet so instead I started walking around the house with a heap of pillows tucked under my shirt to try and simulate a big belly. That didn’t do the trick either (it wasn’t heavy enough) unfortunately.

So the next thing I did was simply asking my girlfriend’s mum to demonstrate to me how did she walk when she was pregnant. Well that was y starting point. It is a very challenging task and if I will be able to pull it off, I will be extremely happy.

Anyhow, here is a the flipbook I did for this test. Feel free to comment, suggest and point out anything that might help me further this test to the next level.

*Attention all female animators, this is your time to shine! :-)

Any feedback from you is highly appreciated.

I am also adding the final finessed version of the angry walk and the jump on the spot tests I was working on.

    Hey Avner,

The Pregnant woman clip isn’t too bad… The weight feels good… one thing that stood out when I first sore it was the legs… they seemed to trail behind her a little… other than that, I thought it was good.

The jumping clip is good, too. Maybe more overlap in the arms, though… I get the feeling he should be leading with his head on the way down to exaggerate the overlap… just felt like the action was in unison on the down beat… could maybe break up the arms so one arm hits the top a few frames before the other… just an idea… The jumps looking good… it feels nice and smooth… the arcs feel good… I also like the timing…was mostly lack of overlap I noticed… good job.
