“Heads Up” – Blocking

Posted by Avner Engel in Animation

A couple of weeks ago I posted some ideas I started to plan over the past few weeks. One of them was “Heads Up”, an emotion change animation test I really wanted to push and see where I can take beofre I go back to AM for another term.

It took me a few nights to block out, and hopefully I will be able to push it as much as I can in the next few days.

Get the latest Flash Player to see this player.

Thanks for watching!

    Hey Avner,
It looks great. Strong poses, tight timing. Really nice job.
I think you can finish the whole thing off at frame 300. You don’t need those last 100 frames, you’ve told the whole story by 300. (Less is more…and less work for you to do means you’ll get to do better quality animation).
Also, just a suggestion: Maybe add another apple to the tree. This way, when he looks up at the tree (around fr. 213) and sees another apple, he has more reason to move away.
Anyway, it’s some excellent blocking, good job.

Great stuff Av, looking really nice already. Main things for me: I think you could put a 1-frame ‘anticipation’ on the collision of the apple @ FRM132 (stretch out the guy’s body a little bit on the contact frame). It should provide some nice contrast with the hunched over position @ FRM134.

I think I preferred the simplicity of the Flipbook planning for the ending – I don’t think you need the stuff from about FRM320 onwards, it makes it feel a little drawn out and possibly leaves the viewer expecting (and waiting) for something else to happen.

Other than that minor point, it’s looking awesome! Nice job!

hey Buddy! Great stuff…. loooks really nice so far…! the emotion change is very readable! and I love his reaction to the apple falling on his head…! the only thing that im unsure of is his head/arm shaking from about frame 58 to about frame 72. that part looks a bit off to me right now but if its blocking it might make sense gradually! im not sure yet. but other than that AWESOME JOB ON IT buddy :)
