“Heads Up” – Polishing

Posted by Avner Engel in Animation

Over the last few Sundays I started working on polishing this animation test I started a few weeks back. I am not entirely happy with it yet as I have a few more things to push and polish a bit more but over all it’s slowly getting there.

    Hey Avner,
Are you still using the “Jason Ryan” method, you know, doing a flipbook pass before going into maya, or you now just diving in from the beginning? You’re stuff is looking good. The only thing that popped out at me was at the beginning, the leg that’s crossed over is very static. Might be nice to add a little toe wiggle or swing the foot ever so slightly. My 2 cents! Keep it up!

Hey AV thats looking cool mate. But 2 cents from me would be the apple seem to be loosing its weight after the 1st bounce and majority weight loss is noticed when it bounces on the ground. May be its just me, but i feel the as the fact that apple’s are not hollow in within and are quite solid substance i don’t think it will bounce that much. Secondly as its not a perfect spherical in shape i feel that you can not guess what direction is it gonna bounce, i mean if i go frame by frame the apple hits the guys left side of the head and and the apple hits him straight i mean the angle in which it fell is quiet consistent until it hits the head so, looking the side on which it hits and the angle which its hits, the bounce should be to the direction you currently have. Though i understand that you have made it bounce towards the camera for a better visual representation, my thought it ain’t looking right physically. AND when it hits the bench i.e second bounce, i would say keep an eye where actually it hits i mean the bench is curved at the edge so that too would make a difference in the bounce and the direction of which the apply should go and last but not least as i mentioned earlier the last bounces seems to be re-timed to me it really loosing the physical property that an apple has. ONE LAST THING :D i would show some slight movement (say like swinging back and forth – very subtle) in the apple b4 it falls just to prepare the audience for the next thing that’s gonna happen, thought i know what is going to happen still some movement in the apple would be nice :) Just few of my thoughts mate i could be wrong too but said what i feel :) good luck.

“looking the side on which it hits and the angle which its hits, the bounce SHOULDN’B be to the direction you currently have” forgot to mention NOT :)
